Spring in Long Beach, CA and throughout Southern California is one of my favorite seasons to photograph families—the blooms, the golden sunlight, the joy of new beginnings! Whether you’re planning for a mini session or a full-length family shoot, one of the biggest things that can make or break your experience (and your photos!) is what you wear.
Don’t worry—I’ve got you! Here’s your full guide to choosing outfits that will photograph beautifully and reflect your family’s unique personality for your spring family photos.
Soft pastels, earthy neutrals, and muted tones are perfect for family spring sessions. Think:
Gone are the days of everyone in matching white shirts and jeans. Instead, pick a color palette (2–3 main colors) and spread them across the family. For example:
This creates harmony without looking too uniform.
Photos come to life with texture! Consider:
These details add visual interest and a cozy, candid feel to your photos.
Shoes matter! Stick with neutral tones and simple styles—brown leather, canvas slip-ons, or classic sandals. If your session is at a park or beach, barefoot can look sweet and natural for little kids.
Avoid running shoes or anything with logos if possible.
You’ll be moving, sitting, snuggling, and maybe even playing—so make sure your clothes move with you and your kids feel comfortable. The more at ease you all are, the better the photos will turn out.
Spring family photo sessions are all about connection, joy, and light—and your outfits should reflect that too. Let them feel like you, just a little elevated and polished.
Need help? I’m always happy to give feedback on outfit options—just send me a quick message or text a photo of your choices!
